During a rep check, Cue uses Apple's Vision framework to find your dog's body pose (nose, legs, tail and so on) in each camera frame, and a small model built into the app to decide whether that pose matches the trick. When several frames in a row agree, the rep is counted. Everything happens on your iPhone; video is never uploaded.
For best results: prop the phone at your dog's height, 1–2 m (3–6 ft) away, with your dog side-on to the camera and fully in the frame. Good, even light helps. The setup tips on screen tell you when the camera can't see your dog, it's too dark, or your dog is too close.
You can always use "My dog did it" if the camera misses a rep your dog really did.
Yes. Tap "No dog handy? Try a demo" during onboarding or on any session's intro screen. It plays a short sample video of a dog through the same camera check, so you can see how a Verified rep, your dog's line and a share clip work.
Cue is built and tested for dogs only. Apple's animal pose detection sometimes finds cats too, but the tricks and checks are designed for dogs.
Only for sound features: Bark Coach, the Speak and Quiet trick checks, and the optional "Record sound in clips" setting (off by default). iOS asks the first time you use one of them. Camera checks never need the microphone. Audio is analyzed on your iPhone with Apple's SoundAnalysis framework to recognize barks, then discarded.
In the Tools tab. Bark Coach is part of Cue Plus.
No. Bark Coach listens only while Cue is open on screen. For the alone-time check, leave the app open on screen (Cue keeps the screen awake while it listens) with your iPhone propped up and plugged in.
No. Your dog's lines are playful fiction based on today's training, not a translation of barks or thoughts. They're written on your iPhone by Apple Intelligence when it's available (those lines carry a "✦ AI" tag), or picked from Cue's own scripted lines when it isn't. "Ask" offers a few fun preset questions; there's no free-text chat.
AI-written lines need an iPhone and iOS version that support Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in iOS Settings. On other iPhones you get the scripted lines, and everything else works the same. Settings › Voice shows which one you're using.
Open Tools › Potty timer and tap what just happened: pee or poop outside, accident inside, meal, or woke up. Cue counts down to the next break based on your dog's life stage (about every hour for a puppy, 3 hours for a young dog, 4 hours for an adult and 3 hours for a senior), or 15 minutes after a meal or nap. You can change the interval from 30 minutes to 6 hours with "Break every". These are starting points; your vet or trainer may suggest different timing for your dog. Today's tally and an accident-free streak show how it's going.
You can also add the Potty timer widget to your Home Screen or Lock Screen.
No. Care reminders (vaccines, flea & tick, heartworm, deworming, medication, vet visits, grooming, nail trims) remind you at 9 am on the date you enter. Cue doesn't recommend schedules, products or doses. Follow your vet's schedule, and call your vet with any health question.
The clicker marks the moment your dog gets it right with a sound, a quick flash of your iPhone's flashlight (handy for deaf or hard-of-hearing dogs), or both. The flash uses only the light; it needs no camera permission and records nothing. The recall whistle plays three audible signals (Come, Long and Trill). Phone speakers can't play "silent" ultrasonic whistles, so turn the volume up, and pair the whistle with great treats at home before you use it outside.
Free: Unit 1 (Foundations), the first two fun tricks, Gentle Mouth and Go Potty, camera checks, share clips, streaks, one dog, and the clicker, recall whistle, potty timer and care reminders in Tools. Cue Plus adds every unit and skill, Bark Coach, trick-title prep with mock evaluations, more than one dog, detailed stats and widget styles. Plus is available yearly (with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers) or monthly; current prices are shown in the app before you buy.
Yes. Cue schedules a reminder on your iPhone 2 days before the trial ends (if notifications are allowed). If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the yearly subscription starts automatically.
Open iOS Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Cue Plus › Cancel Subscription, or in Cue go to Settings › Cue Plus › Manage subscription. You keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for.
Sign in with the same Apple Account, open Cue, and tap Settings › Restore purchases (or Restore on the Plus screen).
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Cue has no accounts or servers, so your dog's profile, training history, potty log and care reminders live only on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them. Saved clips stay in your Photos library. See the Privacy Policy.
Cue's trick-title prep helps you practice for the AKC Trick Dog Novice title. Cue is not affiliated with or endorsed by the American Kennel Club. Titles are awarded by the AKC after an evaluation by an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator; check the AKC's Trick Dog pages for the current rules.
